About WinRAR
WinRAR is the only program that writes RAR archives, and it reads essentially every other format you will meet, including ZIP, 7z, tar and ISO. Recovery records let a damaged archive rebuild itself, and multi-part archives with per-part recovery are still the safest way to move very large files across unreliable media.
It is paid software with a 40-day trial. The trial keeps working after that and only nags on launch, which is why so many installs have run for years without a licence. RARLAB also ships a command line version for macOS and Linux.
