About WinUtil
WinUtil is the thing many people run first on a new Windows install. It has four tabs: install, for picking a list of applications and installing them all at once through the package managers; tweaks, for debloating and privacy changes; config, for troubleshooting and system tools; and updates, for choosing how aggressively Windows updates.
Presets speed up the tweaks tab, with Standard for balanced defaults, Minimal for light changes and Advanced for deeper ones, and the exact contents of each are published in the repository so you can see what they do before running them.
It must be run as administrator because it makes system-wide changes, and it is launched by a one-line command that downloads and runs the script, which is a trust decision you should make deliberately.
Strengths
- Installs a chosen set of applications in bulk through the package managers
- Tweaks, troubleshooting tools and Windows update control in the same interface
- Presets with their exact contents published, so you can read before running
- Nothing to install; it runs from a single PowerShell command
Limitations
- Must be run as administrator because it makes system-wide changes
- The launch method downloads and runs a script from the internet
- Windows only
- Aggressive tweaks can break features you did not realise you used
