About Woodpecker CI
Woodpecker runs container-based pipelines defined in a YAML file in the repository, with agents that can sit on separate machines and back ends for Docker, Kubernetes and local execution. It is a community fork of Drone and stays deliberately small.
Strengths
- Small server plus agents, so it runs comfortably next to a self-hosted Git server
- Pipelines are ordinary containers, so no plugin language to learn
Limitations
- Fewer ready-made plugins than the large hosted CI services
- Pipeline syntax has changed between major versions
