About Zsh
Zsh is a Bourne-compatible shell built for interactive use, with programmable completion that understands individual commands, recursive globbing, spelling correction, shared history and extensive prompt customisation. It has been the default login shell on macOS since Catalina.
Strengths
- Completion system that knows the options of individual commands
- Recursive globbing and qualifiers that replace many find invocations
Limitations
- Startup configuration grows complicated quickly, which is why frameworks exist
- Scripts written for Zsh are not portable to plain POSIX shells
