Linux, Self-hosted |
- Mature, widely deployed hypervisor used extensively in enterprise environments
- Free edition available for smaller homelab or small-business use
|
- One web interface for KVM virtual machines and LXC containers on the same host
- Backup, restore and high-availability clustering included rather than sold separately
|
- Free edition lacks the centralized management features found in licensed vSphere
- Requires dedicated hardware to install, as it runs directly on bare metal
|
- Dedicated hardware: it is the operating system, not an app you run on your desktop
- Without a subscription you use the no-subscription repository and see a reminder at each login
