Replacements

Listings that take over the same core job as Repetier-Host.

  • MatterControl

Open-source desktop app for designing, slicing and controlling 3D prints on Windows, Mac and Linux.

MatterControl is open source and combines design, slicing and printer control in one app on Windows, macOS and Linux, though its development pace is slow.

  • Printrun

A Python host suite for 3D printers with the Pronterface GUI, Pronsole console and Printcore library.

Printrun is a GPL-3.0 host with the Pronterface GUI and a command-line console for USB control, but it does not bundle slicers and has a plainer interface.

  • UltiMaker Cura

The most widely used free slicer for filament 3D printers, with profiles for hundreds of machines.

UltiMaker Cura is an open-source slicer with profiles for hundreds of printers and a layer preview, focused on slicing rather than directly driving the printer.

  • PrusaSlicer

Prusa Research's slicer, based on Slic3r, for both filament and resin printers and no account required.

PrusaSlicer is an open-source slicer with painted supports and per-layer changes and native builds, but it does not host prints over USB like Repetier-Host.

  • Simplify3D

Prepare and preview print jobs with a commercial 3D slicer.

Simplify3D is a paid commercial slicer with support-generation and toolpath controls, replacing Repetier-Host's free bundled slicers with a licensed one.

  • OctoPrint

Control and monitor a 3D printer from a browser.

OctoPrint moves printing to a browser on a host computer with an extensive plugin system, and is open source under AGPL-3.0 rather than closed source.
