About dnscrypt-proxy
dnscrypt-proxy sits between your machine and a DNS resolver and encrypts the conversation, using DNS-over-HTTPS over TLS 1.3 or QUIC, DNSCrypt v2, Anonymized DNSCrypt or Oblivious DoH. Your provider sees an encrypted connection instead of a list of every site you visited.
It also filters: block lists for ads and malware, time-based rules on a weekly schedule, cloaking that maps a domain to an address like a hosts file, and per-domain routing to specific resolvers. It load-balances across the fastest resolvers it measures and caches to cut latency.
Client addresses can be hidden through Tor, a SOCKS proxy or Anonymized DNS relays, which is a stronger position than encrypted DNS alone.
