GNU Inetutils bundles classic network clients, servers and administration tools. It includes an inetd meta-server, ftp, telnet, rsh, rlogin, tftp and talk clients and servers, a syslogd daemon, network tools such as ping, ping6, traceroute and whois, and admin tools such as hostname, dnsdomainname, ifconfig and logger.
Most programs are improved versions of the BSD originals; others were written from scratch. It suits administrators and users who want the GNU versions of these standard utilities.
