About OpenCE
OpenCE ports the original Xbox Halo: Combat Evolved decompilation to Windows, Linux, Android and the web. The project publishes native builds and a self-hostable WebAssembly build.
Players must supply their own Xbox game disc image: the port extracts its maps locally, and the browser version stores them on the device rather than uploading them. The project documents system-link and cross-platform multiplayer; these are maintainer claims rather than independent gameplay results.
Strengths
- Native Windows, Linux and Android builds plus a browser version
- Uses a user-supplied disc image
- Documents cross-platform multiplayer
Limitations
- Requires the original game data; the port is not a free copy of Halo
- Unofficial community port with platform-specific requirements
- The web build targets desktop Chrome, Edge and Firefox
