About Apache OpenOffice
Apache OpenOffice is the continuation of OpenOffice.org and contains the familiar six programs: Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw, Base and Math. It reads and writes ODF and opens Microsoft formats, and it still runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, FreeBSD and OS/2.
It is included here because so many people still look for it by name. In practice LibreOffice forked from the same codebase in 2010, took most of the developers, and releases far more often: OpenOffice's 4.1.16 dates from November 2025 and the 4.1 line goes back to 2014. OpenOffice also cannot save in the modern .docx and .xlsx formats, only read them.
