About Subtitle Edit
Subtitle Edit shows the audio waveform and a spectrogram next to the subtitle list, so setting timings is a matter of dragging to where the speech actually starts. It reads and writes more than two hundred subtitle formats, syncs a file that is off by a constant or a drift, and fixes the common errors in bulk.
It also does speech recognition to generate subtitles from scratch, machine translation between languages, and optical character recognition for image-based subtitles from DVDs and Blu-rays. Version 5 is cross-platform, with macOS builds signed and notarised and a Flatpak for Linux.
