About VapourSynth
VapourSynth processes video through scripts written in Python, chaining source, filter and restoration plugins such as BestSource and ports of denoisers like KNLMeans and BM3D. The output can be fed to an encoder or viewed as it is processed, making it a scriptable alternative to AviSynth.
Release R80 added GPU support through Vulkan 1.4 on Windows, Linux and macOS (via MoltenVK), with one GPU used at a time. It suits encoders and restoration hobbyists comfortable writing scripts rather than using a graphical editor.
Strengths
- Video pipelines written as Python scripts
- Wide plugin ecosystem for filtering and restoration
- GPU acceleration through Vulkan in recent releases
- Actively developed with frequent releases
Limitations
- No graphical editor; requires scripting
- GPU support needs Vulkan 1.4 and uses one GPU at a time
- Windows 7 support ended with release R73

AviSynth+
A frameserver for scripted video processing and filtering, forked from AviSynth.
AviSynth+ uses its own scripting language instead of Python, supports existing AviSynth plugins and runs on Windows and Linux rather than also macOS.

Topaz Video
Video enhancement software that uses AI models to upscale, stabilize, sharpen and interpolate frames in footage.
VapourSynth is free open-source scripted filtering and restoration with plugins and Vulkan GPU support, requiring Python scripts instead of a graphical app.
