About Video2X

Video2X uses machine-learning models to raise the resolution of videos and to add interpolated frames for smoother motion. It started at the Hack the Valley II hackathon in 2018 and has grown into a widely used project, with a C++ core library, bundled models and a command-line tool.

It suits people restoring low-resolution footage or animation, or making higher-frame-rate versions of clips, who are comfortable running a local tool that relies on their own GPU.

Strengths

  • Both super resolution and frame interpolation in one tool
  • Runs locally with bundled models
  • Large, established open-source project

Limitations

  • Processing is slow and demanding on hardware
  • Command-line focus may not suit casual users
