About Windows LAPS
Windows Local Administrator Password Solution manages the password of a local administrator account on devices joined to Microsoft Entra ID or Windows Server Active Directory, rotating it and backing it up to the directory. This stops many machines from sharing one local admin password that an attacker could reuse to move across a network.
On domain controllers it can also manage the Directory Services Restore Mode account password. It is part of Windows 10, Windows 11 and Windows Server 2019 and later.
