arping uses ARP requests to check whether a specific IP address on a LAN is taken and identify the MAC address that owns it. It can help when a host does not respond to regular ping or is not on a routable network.
The project lists Debian and Ubuntu, ARM Linux, and OpenBSD among platforms it tests. It is aimed at people diagnosing local network address conflicts.
