About cliphist

cliphist writes each clipboard change to a history file and lets you recall entries through whatever picker you prefer, such as dmenu, rofi or wofi. Both text and images are supported.

Clipboard contents are preserved byte for byte, including leading and trailing whitespace and newlines, so pasted code and formatted text come back exactly as copied. It suits Wayland users on compositors such as Sway or Hyprland who put together their own desktop from small tools.

Strengths

  • Works with any dmenu-style picker
  • Supports images as well as text
  • Preserves clipboard contents byte for byte

Limitations

  • Wayland only
  • No interface of its own; needs a picker and some manual setup
