About Exim
Exim is a message transfer agent (MTA) originally developed at the University of Cambridge for Unix systems connected to the Internet. It receives, routes and delivers email, and can be installed in place of Sendmail, though its configuration is quite different.
It is known for flexible mail routing and extensive facilities for checking incoming mail. The current version is 4.100, and all earlier versions are marked obsolete. It suits administrators running their own mail servers who want fine control over how mail is handled.
