About herbstluftwm
herbstluftwm is a manual tiling window manager for X. The screen is split into frames that can be divided again or filled with windows, and each virtual desktop, called a tag, has both a tiling and a floating layer.
All configuration happens at runtime through herbstclient, so the config file is simply a startup script and keybindings, rules and settings can change without a restart. Screen space can be divided into virtual monitors that share one pool of tags, which is useful on large displays.
