About OpenLDAP

OpenLDAP Software is the OpenLDAP Project's implementation of the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol. The suite includes slapd, a stand-alone LDAP directory server, and lloadd, an LDAP load balancer that runs on its own or as a slapd module. It also ships libraries implementing the protocol, command-line utilities and sample clients.

It suits administrators who want a standards-based directory for users, groups and hosts on their own servers. The project maintains a feature release series (2.7) and a long-term support series (2.6), with an admin guide, a quick start guide and manual pages.
