Alternatives to DiskSavvy

A Windows disk space analyzer that classifies files on local disks, network shares and NAS devices. The listings below can replace it for an important use case. Each note says what changes if you switch.

Replacements

Listings that take over the same core job as DiskSavvy.

  • FolderSizes

A Windows disk space analyzer that reports folder sizes and finds large, old and duplicate files.

    FreemiumProprietaryWindows

FolderSizes also analyses network shares on Windows and adds scheduled email reports and trend snapshots over time, with some features in the paid Pro edition.

  • TreeSize Free

Shows which folders are eating a Windows drive, ranked largest first, without a scan that takes all afternoon.

    FreemiumProprietaryWindows

TreeSize Free reads the NTFS master file table for quick scans and is free for commercial use, but reports, exports and duplicate search need a paid edition.

  • WizTree

Finds what is eating a Windows disk in seconds by reading the NTFS master file table directly.

    FreemiumProprietaryWindows

WizTree scans NTFS drives in seconds and shows a treemap with a sorted list and CSV export, though commercial use needs a paid licence.

  • WinDirStat

Draws your whole drive as a treemap, so a single 40 GB file is a huge rectangle you cannot miss.

WinDirStat is GPL-2.0 open source for Windows, draws the drive as a treemap and finds duplicates by hash, without DiskSavvy's classification reports or command-line edition.

  • SpaceSniffer

Shows disk usage as a treemap you click into, so the biggest folders and files are immediately obvious.

    FreeProprietaryWindows

SpaceSniffer is free, portable Windows freeware with a live-updating treemap, but it lacks DiskSavvy's file classification reports and command-line utility.

  • Filelight

Shows disk usage as concentric rings you can click into.

Filelight is GPL-2.0 open source for Windows and Linux, scans network locations too, and shows usage as clickable rings, though it pulls in KDE libraries.

  • Duc

A set of tools that index disk usage into a database and show it in several interfaces.

Duc moves the job to Linux, indexing very large filesystems into a database and browsing them through console, graphical or web interfaces under the LGPL-3.0 license.

  • QDirStat

A Qt-based graphical disk usage analyser with a directory tree and treemap view.

QDirStat is GPL-2.0 open source for Linux and macOS with a treemap and tree view, but there is no Windows version.
