About Asset Forge

Asset Forge lets you build game assets by placing, rotating, mirroring and resizing pre-made blocks, with over 900 blocks available for castles, spaceships, vehicles, buildings and more. You can apply colours, materials and textures, then export to common 3D formats.

Models can also be rendered as PNG sprites, including batch export in multiple directions. Output works with most game engines, including Unity, Unreal Engine and Godot. It runs on Windows and Linux and suits game developers without 3D modelling skills.

Strengths

  • Over 900 pre-made blocks to combine
  • Exports 3D models and multi-direction 2D sprites
  • Works with Unity, Unreal Engine and Godot

Limitations

  • Limited to combining supplied blocks rather than free modelling
  • No macOS version
  • Paid

Alternatives to Asset Forge

Compare all

Software that can replace Asset Forge for an important use case, and what changes if you switch.

  • Blockbench

A low-poly 3D model editor built for pixel-art textures, with dedicated formats for Minecraft Java and Bedrock.

Blockbench is a free, open-source low-poly editor with pixel-art texturing, UV mapping and animation, running on Windows, macOS, Linux and the web, though you model rather than combine blocks.

  • Crocotile 3D

A desktop tool for building low-poly 3D models and environments by placing 2D tiles in 3D space.

Crocotile 3D builds low-poly models by placing 2D tiles in 3D space, adds rigging and baked lighting, exports OBJ and glTF, and also runs on macOS.

  • MagicaVoxel

A free voxel editor and path-traced renderer that makes good-looking blocky art with almost no learning curve.

    FreeProprietaryWindowsmacOS

MagicaVoxel is a free voxel editor with a built-in path tracer for Windows and macOS, but it has had no release since 2021 and is voxel art only.

  • vengi

Voxel art suite with an editor, a format converter and a thumbnailer.

vengi is a free, open-source voxel suite for Windows, macOS and Linux whose converter reads MagicaVoxel and Minecraft formats, though its editor is less polished.

  • Goxel

Create 3D artwork from colored voxel blocks.

Goxel is free, open-source voxel modeling on Windows, macOS and Linux with layers and several export formats, replacing pre-made blocks with freely placed colored voxels.

  • Blender

The free 3D creation suite: modelling, sculpting, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and video editing.

Blender is a free, open-source full 3D suite covering modelling, animation and rendering on all desktop platforms, but it has a long learning curve compared with block assembly.
