About Crocotile 3D

Crocotile 3D takes the tilesets usually used for flat 2D scenes and lets you place tiles in 3D space to build models and levels. Draw and Edit modes add, remove and change tiles, and you can place blocks in a Minecraft-like way, change UVs, and paint or modify tilesets in a built-in editor.

It also covers vertex colors, lights and shadows, animated tiles, skinning with bones, and grouping tiles into prefabs. Models export to OBJ, glTF, GLB and DAE for use in game engines, and FBX, glTF, OBJ and DAE files can be imported.

Strengths

  • Turns pixel-art tilesets into 3D models and scenes
  • Exports OBJ, glTF, GLB and DAE for game engines
  • Includes rigging, animated tiles and baked lighting
  • Runs on Windows, macOS and Linux

Limitations

  • Built around a tile-based workflow, not general-purpose modeling
  • Pricing details are not stated on the homepage
