About microG

microG GmsCore reimplements Google's proprietary Play Services so that apps which call Google APIs can run on AOSP-based ROMs such as LineageOS without the official GApps package. Google services are opt-in, and it includes an online and offline location service.

It aims to be light on battery, memory and CPU. Apps that rely on Play Services may still bundle proprietary libraries of their own to talk to microG, so it reduces rather than removes Google code on the phone. It suits people running a de-Googled Android ROM who still need app compatibility.
