About Avidemux
Avidemux does the jobs that a timeline editor makes unnecessarily complicated: cut a section out of a video, join two files, apply a filter, change the container or re-encode to a different codec. It supports copy mode, which cuts without re-encoding at all, so a trim is instant and lossless.
It handles AVI, MP4, MPEG, MKV and ASF among others, has a queue for batch jobs and a project scripting system for repeating a set of operations. It is not a compositing or multi-track editor and does not pretend to be.
The last stable release is 2.8.1 from 2022, with nightly builds published since, so the project is slow-moving rather than dead.
