About KDiskMark
KDiskMark measures the read and write speed of hard drives and SSDs on Linux. It provides presets and a graphical interface on top of the Flexible I/O Tester (fio), then presents the output as a clear benchmark result similar in style to CrystalDiskMark on Windows.
Block size, queue depth and thread count can be set for each test. It is written in C++ with Qt and has no KDE dependencies, so it fits any desktop.
Strengths
- Simple interface over the fio benchmark engine
- Configurable block size, queues and threads
- No KDE dependencies despite the name
- Many interface languages
Limitations
- Linux only
- Relies on fio being installed

Alternatives to KDiskMark
Compare allSoftware that can replace KDiskMark for an important use case, and what changes if you switch.
fio
A flexible command-line I/O tester for benchmarking and stress-testing storage devices.
fio is the command-line engine behind KDiskMark, offering far more configurable job files and detailed latency reports without a graphical interface.
CrystalDiskMark
The standard Windows disk benchmark, measuring sequential and random read and write speeds in a few clicks.
CrystalDiskMark is the Windows benchmark KDiskMark imitates, with peak and real-world modes, and does not run on Linux.
GNOME Disks
A graphical disk utility for GNOME that partitions, formats, benchmarks and images drives on Linux.
GNOME Disks includes a basic read and access-time benchmark within a broader Linux disk utility, with fewer test options.
DiskSpd
Microsoft's command-line storage load generator for benchmarking disk performance on Windows.
DiskSpd is Microsoft's configurable command-line load generator for Windows, aimed at administrators rather than quick checks.
ATTO Disk Benchmark
A free benchmark from ATTO Technology for measuring storage read and write performance.
ATTO Disk Benchmark is a free proprietary Windows tool for quick read and write speed tests.
AS SSD Benchmark
Quick Windows benchmark tool for testing SSD read and write speeds.
AS SSD Benchmark is a free closed-source Windows benchmark focused on SSDs, needing no installation.
KDiskMark as an alternative

HD Tune
Benchmarks storage drives and scans them for errors and S.M.A.R.T. warnings.
KDiskMark is a free Linux disk benchmark built on fio with configurable block size and queues, but it does not scan for errors or read S.M.A.R.T. data.
Similar software
Related functionality, not necessarily a direct replacement.
GSmartControl
A graphical interface for smartctl that shows the health of hard drives and SSDs.
smartmontools
Reads the SMART health data built into disks and runs self-tests, giving advance warning before a drive fails.
f3
A command-line tool that tests flash drives and memory cards for fake capacity and real performance.
nvme-cli
A Linux command-line tool for managing, inspecting and formatting NVMe solid-state drives.
HDDScan
A free Windows utility for testing hard drives and SSDs, reading SMART data and running surface tests.
